Warning Signs: How to Tell If the Candidate is Not Committed

Warning Signs: How to Tell If the Candidate is Not Committed

During an interview, most candidates sound very excited and eager to get the job. They respond to questions smartly and say all the right things when asked about random questions, too. As a recruiter, how do you spot the interested yet uncommitted candidates? Zennexec Staffing, a staffing agency in Atlanta, Georgia, prepared a list of warning signs below.

  • They are unresponsive.
Some recruiting process takes only a few minutes, but others take a day or two. When a candidate ignores your calls after finding out that the interview will take more time than they expected, that could be a red flag. Reach out to them whether via text or email, and ask what their preferred time and method of contact is. If they remain unresponsive, it is time to look for other candidates.
  • They are unprepared during the interview.
An applicant who comes to an interview without knowing about the company or what the job entails is a big turn-off, but you can always give them a chance by doing follow-up questions. Ask some basic questions about the job, and if they still cannot answer, then you have to rethink it. If they did not exert effort in researching the role, you can’t be sure that they will be fully committed to their job once hired.
  • They evade answering tough questions.
Talent acquisition in Georgia means asking challenging questions to candidates to make sure about how committed they are. It will also help you assess their personality and communication skills as they deliver and support their answers. If they try to avoid answering difficult questions, it could mean that they are not taking the opportunity seriously.
